Only two Aston Martin DBR2 race cars have ever existed, and one of themDBR2 #2earned the People’s Choice Award from MSN Autos at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the premier vintage car show and competition now in its 57th year.

The People’s Choice Award goes to the car that receives the most votes on the MSN Autos Web site in the weeks preceding the Pebble Beach Concours.

Owned by Gregory Whitten of Medina, Washington, the 1957 Aston Martin DBR2 captured the attention of visitors to MSN Autos, who gave the racing Aston 29 percent of the vote. Painted in an eye-catching green with yellow accent paint around the grille, the DBR2s have a rich racing heritage in the United States. This particular car was driven to victory by racing legend Stirling Moss in the Governor’s Trophy race in the Bahamas in 1958.

The car was sold by Aston Martin in 1960 and later owned by Victor Gauntlet, who was chairman of Aston Martin in the 1980s. Whitten acquired the car in 2000.

MSN Autos General Manager Scott Ehlers presented the award to Mr. Whitten on the ramp during the Concours awards ceremony.

This award was especially sweet since Aston Martin was one of the featured marques at this year’s Concours. Although the DBR2 was not being judged at this year’s event (a car can only be judged once every ten years at the Concours), Whitten brought the car to Pebble Beach in the year he acquired it and earned the Road and Track award, which goes to the car the enthusiast magazine’s editors would most like to drive.

The voting for this year’s award was quite close, with the second-highest number of votes going to the classic 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe.
