Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
The Superleggera made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show and joins the Lamborghini lineup in March 2007 as a more extreme version of the Gallardo for the driver seeking the ultimate in performance.
Through the extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, the weight of the Gallardo was reduced by 100 kg (220 lbs) while the power of the engine was increased by 10 horsepower for a total of 530 horsepower at 8000 rpm. Less weight and more power is always a good combination when increased performance is the goal, and the result is that the Gallardo Superleggera will accelerate from zero to 62 mph in only 3.8 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the standard Gallardo.
The e-gear is standard for the Gallardo Superleggera, allowing the driver either fully automatic shifting or manual shifting by the use of paddles located behind the steering wheel. The e-gear transmission is a mechanical transmission with electromechanical operation of the clutch and gear changing.
The engine cover of the Gallardo Superleggera is made of carbon fiber and transparent polycarbonate which not only reduces the weight but exposes the heart of the Gallardo—its 5.0-liter V10 engine. Carbon fiber is also used for the rear diffuser, underbody covering, mirrors, door panels, and central tunnel covering to reduce weight. Some glass surfaces were even replaced with transparent polycarbonate, all in the interest of weight reduction.
Monocoque carbon fiber sport seats covered in Alcantara were added to the Gallardo Superleggera to help hold the driver and passenger in place during high lateral acceleration which this car is quite capable of delivering.
The Gallardo Superleggera is available in four colors: Midas Yellow, Borealis Orange, Telesto Gray and Noctis Black. New Scorpius forged wheels are standard with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. And optional sport package includes shock absorbers and a suede-covered steering wheel.
The Superleggera can also be fitted with a fixed rear spoiler; carbon-ceramic brakes; multimedia system with navigation and CD changer; a rear video camera (requires optional rear spoiler); a carbon accessories kit for the interior; and four-point seat belt (not available in the U.S.).
