Following on the recent debut of the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S, two new versions debut at the Geneva Motor Show sporting new engines.

The MINI One becomes the most affordable MINI offering, powered by a 95-horsepower 1.4-liter engine with aluminum construction and variable-valve control for a car that offers a high level of fuel economy while remaining fun to drive.

The MINI Cooper D is powered by a 110-horsepower 1.6-liter turbodiesel that also delivers sporty driving performance with impressive power and excellent efficiency. The MINI One achieved a fuel economy rating on the EU combined cycle of the equivalent of 49.6 mpg (5.7 l/100 km) while the MINI Cooper D achieved the equivalent of 64.2 mpg  (4.4 l/100 km) on the EU test, making it the most fuel-efficient MINI ever built.

The MINI Cooper D possesses all the benefits of a modern diesel including innovative direct fuel injection, as well as a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for excellent power and performance in all power ranges. The new Overboost function gives the MINI Cooper D a more powerful “kick” when needed and boosts maximum torque from 177 to 192 lb-ft (240 – 260 NM).

According to MINI the MINI Cooper D will accelerate from zero to 62 rpm in just 9.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 121 mph (195 kph).

Exterior cues to distinguish the MINI One include black insert bars in the grille, black caps on the mirrors and a black handle for the tailgate. The MINI Cooper D features a more muscular curve to the power dome hood to accommodate the taller engine and the larger air intake. Additionally the MINI Cooper D has a body-color crossbar on the lower air intake.

The MINI One and the MINI Cooper D both come with standard 6-speed manual transmissions and the MINI One is also available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic for manual gear changes. Currently these two new MINIs are for the European market only.
