MINI Clubman Debuts
Decked out with large television screens and bright lights, the MINI Clubman made its world debut by driving out onto the catwalk like a fashion show. Three versions of the Clubman drove up and down the runway before settling into a turntable: the Cooper D Clubman, Cooper S Clubman and the MINI Clubman.
Shown as a concept just two years ago in Frankfurt, the MINI Cooper Clubman has the “shooting brake” look that combines elements of a coupe and a hatchback. The stretched roofline extends the Clubman’s body length to 13 feet, just 10 inches longer than the regular MINI.
The extra length gives the five-passenger Clubman more space and it can add nearly 35 cubic feet of luggage space by folding down the rear seat. Loading and unloading can be done using split doors in the rear and the “club door” opens backwards from the center of the car making getting in and out of the rear seats less of a chore.
The MINI Clubman will be available in three engine choices: a 110-horsepower 1.6-liter turbodiesel four cylinder, 120-horsepower 1.6-liter four cylinder and 175-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder.
The new second-generation MINIs offer a highly efficient powertrain technology that lowers fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The most-efficient performer is the MINI Cooper D Clubman at 4.1 liters/100 km or about 57 mpg and CO2 emissions are reduced to 109 g/km (per .62 miles).
To keep the go-kart feeling of a MINI, new chassis technology has been specifically geared to the Clubman. The Clubman comes with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, Cornering Brake Control, Brake Assistant, Dynamic Stability with hill start-up assistance and a limited-slip differential as an option for the Cooper S Clubman.
A wide range of customization options are available for the interior and exterior and more than 40 different color combinations can be selected. The MINI Clubman is expected to hit the markets in Germany on November 10 this year.
