510 Horsepower Mustang
In the spirit of the original P-51 Mustang fighter plane, ROUSH bills its latest Mustang that shares the plane’s name as being “set to save the streets from foreign invasion.” With an estimated 510 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, the new ROUSH P-51A Mustang is the most powerful Mustang yet from the racing and engineering company, thanks to internal engine upgrades and the latest version of the ROUSHcharger supercharger system.
“I’ve often said that there was never a Mustang built that I didn’t like and that includes both the car and the airplane,” said Jack Roush, legendary race team owner and an aviation enthusiast who currently owns two P-51 Mustang warbirds. “This is the type of product that ROUSH has wanted to produce for at least 10 years but the right platform, the right technology, and the right timing never intersected until now.”
Riding on 18-inch ROUSH forged 5-spoke wheels, the P-51A Mustang features Stage 3 suspension with specially-engineered and tuned front struts, rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear sway bars and jounce bumpers. The front brakes are also upgraded with 14-inch two-piece rotors and four-piston calipers.
The aggressive stance of the ROUSH P-51A comes from a ROUSH aerobody kit that includes a new front fascia, chin spoiler, hood scoop, ROUSH black high-flow grille, air ducts and rear spoiler. The yellow and red accent colors come from those used by the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO (European Theater Operations) who were unofficially known as “The Yoxford Boys” and highly successful group of P-51 pilots during World War II.
Inside leather sport seats and custom floor mats include embroidered P-51A logos along with white-face gauges, billet aluminum pedals, ROUSH short throw shifter and retro black shift knob.
Production of the P-51A Mustang is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2008 and only 100 will be built. Pricing has not been announced, but the P-51A Mustang will carry a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty.
ROUSH 427R Trak Pack Mustang
Also on display at the SEMA Show was the 427R Trak Pak Mustang, with updates to the already potent 427R for better performance on the track.
Also equipped with the intercooled ROUSHcharger, the 427R Trak Pak has 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Designed for on-track use, the ROUSH 427R Trak Pak suspension includes adjustable front and rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear stabilization bars, front and rear jounce bumpers, adjustable camber/caster plates and a functional strut tower brace under the hood. The 18-inch forged wheels are painted dark charcoal and shod with ultra-high performance tires.
The brakes always get a serious workout at the track so the Trak Pak is upgraded with 6-piston front calipers, 14-inch 2-piece slotted front rotors, slotted rear rotors, high-performance racing quality brake pads, new ROUSH brake cooling system and high temperature brake fluid.
“Even though this car has, obviously, a lot of content which was designed for track use, I foresee most owners using this as a ‘daily driver’ as the handling of the ROUSH 427R Trak Pak Mustang is our best-handling Mustang ever,” said Joe Thompson, ROUSH Performance vice-president and general manager. “The handling on this Trak Pak Mustang is truly something amazing.”
The ROUSH 427R Trak Pak Mustang has a suggested retail price of $58,245 and a limited production run of 100 units is expected to begin in late summer 2007. Some of the Trak Pak components will be available separately to update other ROUSH Mustangs.
