Special-Edition Porsche
In 1960 drivers Hans Herrmann and Olivier Gendebien, driving a mid-engine Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder, won the 12 Hours of Sebring. With their lightweight and agile Porsche, they were able to defeat bigger and more powerful competitors. To honor their victory, Porsche has created a special edition Boxster called RS 60.
Displayed next to the actual race-winning car at the New York International Auto Show, the 303-horsepower Boxster RS 60 Spyder receives both exterior and interior changes to reflect its racing heritage.
Beginning with the front end from Porsche’s SportDesign Package and adding 19-inch Porsche SportDesign wheels to distinguish it from the Boxster S, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder is finished in exclusive GT silver metallic with a Carrera Red Natural Leather interior and matching red convertible top. Dark Grey Natural Leather is offered as an option, combined with a black top.
Racing-influenced changes inside include a special texture for seating surfaces as well as the door panels, steering wheel and brake lever. The top cover of the instrument cluster has been removed to display the individual binnacles that have been moved wider apart and finished in GT silver.
Stainless steel kick plates in the door jambs include the RS 60 model designation and the gearshift is race-inspired. The windshield frame is finished in black, while the center console, seatbacks and roll bars are all GT Silver Metallic to match the silver seat belts.
Only 1,960 Boxster RS 60 Spyders will be produced, and each car will be numbered with a silver plaque on the glove box lid. Less than 800 Boxster RS 60 Spyders are destined for North America, and they will have an MSRP of $64,900.
911 GT2 and Cayenne GTS
Porsche also displayed two of its newest and most powerful models ever, the 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 and the 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS.
The fastest and most powerful production 911 ever, the GT2 is motivated by a 530-horsepower twin-turbo 3.6-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine that generates peak torque of 505 lb-ft at just 4500 rpm.
With an aerodynamic body and a curb weight of only 3,175 pounds, the GT2 will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.6 second with a top track speed of 204 mph.
At the top of the 911 model range, the GT2 features standard Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), a titanium exhaust system, sport bucket seats and a new 3-stage version of the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system.
The Cayenne GTS tops the Cayenne model lineup with a level of handling and on-road performance not expected from an SUV. Powered by the same 4.8-liter V8 as the Cayenne S, but with a larger air intake to produce a 20 percent increase in power to 405 horsepower, the GTS is the first V8-powerd Cayenne available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Porsche Active Suspension Management, air suspension, 21-inch alloy wheels and 295/35R21 tires are all standard. A Tiptronic S automatic transmission is also offered.
