All-new TSX From Acura
Acura pulled the wraps off the all-new 2009 TSX at the New York Auto Show, marking the second new sedan introduction for the brand this year. The flagship RL debuted earlier this year in Chicago, and the TSX follows the styling cues of the larger RL.
While it still retains the basic shape of the previous generation, the TSX features Acura’s new signature satin-finish grille, bold fender flares and updated taillights. TSX also has a 1.3-inch longer wheelbase and a 2.6-inch wider track, which should make for improved handling and ride comfort, aided further by new independent front and rear suspension with dual-stage dampers.
Fresh styling is the most obvious change for 2009, the most significant changes aren’t readily discernable at first glance.
The TSX has a new 2.4-liter DOHC VTEC engine, and while it produces around the same horsepower as the outgoing model — 201 horsepower — torque has been increased to 172 lb-ft and is available over a wider rpm band. This means better acceleration both from a standstill as well as for passing.
The new engine is also cleaner, meeting the requirements as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) while improving fuel-efficiency.
The longer wheelbase and wider track not only improve the car's stance and handling, but also provides room for a larger interior. While enjoying that extra room, passengers will also benefit from a number of new standard features, including a power moonroof, dual-zone climate control, leather seats, a 7-speaker audio system with XM Satellite radio, a USB port and Bluetooth connectivity.
Building on its reputation as offering luxury cars with advanced technology, Acura will offer the TSX with a tech package that adds innovative features such as real-time traffic, which can provide a new route on the navigation system to avoid traffic snarls, constantly updated weather and a navigation system with voice recognition. Also included in the package is Acura’s latest high-end audio system — a 415 watt, 10-speaker system with surround sound and DVD-audio designed by Grammy Award-winner Elliot Scheiner.
The TSX is the second of three new sedans coming from Acura for 2009 — the last will be the TL, expected to debut later this year.
