Luxury Touring Concept From Lincoln
Designed as a spacious, comfortable luxury vehicle for long trips, the Lincoln MKT concept is a modern luxury car that captures the essence of true luxury touring car and also builds on the new Lincoln design language.
Showcasing Ford’s new EcoBoost engine technology that uses turbocharging and direct injection to produce the power of a V8 engine with the fuel-efficiency of a V6, the MKT possesses a 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 415 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque on either premium gasoline or E85 ethanol-gas blend. A 6-speed transmission and lightweight eco-friendly recycled materials add to fuel-efficiency.
“The Lincoln MKT concept offers the comfort of a luxury sedan, the spaciousness and flexibility of a full-size utility and the performance of a sporty roadster—executed with new technologies and materials that make it as environmentally friendly as it is elegant,” said Mark Fields, president of the Americas, Ford Motor Company.
The MKT body panels, energy absorbers, wire bundles and glazing are made from two “upcycled” materials, Valox iQ and Xenoy iQ, made from soft-drink bottles and other polyester waste.
Large enough to accommodate 7-passenger seating, the MKT is presented in a four-seat configuration for comfort and luxury. It has heated and cooled thigh supports that extend from under the rear seats, and footrests that extend from under the front seats so that rear-seat passengers can fully recline.
The interior features tone-on-tone colors, eco-friendly materials, ambient lighting and flexible storage. The floor covering is a plush, hand-knotted rug made from banana silk that compliments the Creamy Pearl leather seats. The lines of the exterior are mirrored by a one-piece sculpted chrome door handle.
The instrument panel and two-level center console are finished in reconstituted oak veneer. New technologies include an instrument panel inspired by Swarovski crystal and gauges that use LEDs positioned so the light seems to float from the center of the gauge. The center stack features a patented lighting technology that allows the information displays and controls to be projected onto a contoured 3D surface.
The exterior design has Lincoln’s double-wing chrome grille and LED headlights that wrap into the sculpted hood. A distinct body line flows into rear fender haunches and a substantial C-pillar provides privacy for rear-seat passengers. A bustle-back adds to storage capacity.
